And rather than a more established name – such as Christian Eriksen – Erik ten Hag brought on Toby Collyer for the former Real Madrid star.
Who is Man Utd youngster Toby Collyer?
Toby Collyer was former Manchester United manager Ralph Rangnick‘s only signing during his tenure at Old Trafford.
The youngster joined from Brighton and was considered one for the future.
Collyer is a 20-year-old defensive midfielder and has been a regular for the Under-21s since he joined the club back in 2022.
The former Brighton man has also been deployed as a centre-back in United youth teams.
Collyer has been named on the first team bench a total of four times this season amid United’s injury problems.
He came on for his debut against United wearing the No 43 shirt.
