Hollywood superstar reveals truth behind joining Neighbours reboot

GUY Pearce is happier than ever after moving back to Ramsay Street.

The Hollywood superstar, who returned to Neighbours for the final episode on Channel 5 last year as heartthrob Mike Young, was instrumental in making sure Jane and Mike got their happy ending.

So when news broke that Amazon Freevee were bringing the iconic Aussie soap back, Guy got on the phone to close friend and on-screen lover Annie Jones to discuss his return.

Despite his busy schedule, Guy and Annie made sure Jane and Mike’s love story continued.

Annie, who plays Jane Harris, said: “We had to keep it all really quiet but Guy was in London and we were able to film some bits.

“We just threw up a couple of ideas, possibilities of what could have happened. And then we shared those with the writers and the producers and came up with a solution.

“Guy wants to do right by Mike and by all the fans that seemed to have loved the Mike and Jane story in the last episode so much, and I’m very happy how it’s playing out.

“Mike’s fitted into the neighbourhood, he’s great friends with Karl, he and Karl jam together a lot. They’ve got a bit of a Ramsay Street Band kind of thing going on.

“He really loves living here.”

Guy played Mike Young before leaving the soap in 1989, when he went on to carve out a successful Hollywood career, starring in Iron Man 3, The Time Machine and The King’s Speech to name a few.

His most recent scenes saw him confess his love for “plain Jane super brain”, rekindling their romance while confirming that Sam, played by Henriette Graham, was his daughter.

A trailer for the new episodes, set two years on from the last series, hints they could be taking their relationship to the next level as they seem to be setting a date for a wedding.

Chatting on the phone in the trailer, Jane drops a big hint she is the blushing bride.

She teases: “Well, we found a date on the calendar and went for it.”

It wouldn’t be Ramsay Street without a bump in the road, though.

Jane says she has a secret when she and Mike head for a romantic walk in the woods, telling him: “I have been keeping something from you.”

Aside from Guy, old favourites Toadie, Paul Robinson and Susan and Karl Kennedy will also be returning to the famous cul-de-sac.

Neighbours will be available to stream on Amazon Freevee from September 18.
