Amazon Prime Day sees thousands of products on sale – exclusively for Prime subscribers

Amazon’s Prime Big Deals Day begins tomorrow, October 10th and round through to October 11th – yep, it’s a matter of hours away.

Provided you’re signed up to Amazon’s perks-filled subscription scheme, for 48 hours you can get your mitts on all sorts of items for a lot less than usual.

In 2022 Amazon also hosted two Prime Day events in July and October, giving bargain-hunters even more opportunities to shop for discounts as a Prime member.

How long will Prime Day 2023 last?

The first Prime Day in 2023 ran for 48 hours and took place across a Tuesday and Wednesday in July.

This is the absolute standard for Amazon’s Prime Day events, as they always run for 48 hours.

Within that time, you should expect deals to come and go, with some ‘lightning’-style offers appearing for a limited time (sometimes for just an hour).

We definitely recommend you keep a close eye on the deals page of Amazon’s website.

What Amazon Prime Day deals to expect?

Shoppers can expect the best price drops to come from Amazon’s own devices, including Echo Dots, Fire tablets, Ring video doorbells and Kindle e-readers.

But it’s not just Amazon smart devices that are typically on sale during Prime Day – you can also pick up subscriptions such as Audible, Amazon Music Unlimited and Kindle Unlimited for much less than usual.

Like Prime, these services come with a 30-day free trial period, but that often gets extended to three months.

Prime members should also look out for some impressive price drops on big-name items across all major product categories, whether that’s Elemis cleansing balm or the Shark Anti-Hair Wrap Cordless vacuum cleaner.

What’s the difference between Prime Day and Big Deals Day?

Unless Amazon has something epic tucked away up one sleeve, there’s no practical difference between the traditional Prime Day event in July and the new Prime Big Deals Day in October except for the name.

We guess that they’ve come up with the latter to distinguish it as a separate event.

It is certainly one that is aimed at drawing in customers who have been saving their cash for the normal Black Friday spend.

How do I get access to Amazon Prime Day deals?

If you want to shop the Amazon Prime Day deals, you’ll need to sign up to become an Amazon Prime member, which you can do here.

Amazon’s subscription service comes with a lot of perks, including free next-day delivery (and even same-day delivery in certain postcodes).

You can also get access to Prime Video, Amazon’s ever-growing streaming service of movies and TV shows.

Amazon also offers members early access to its 24-hour ‘lightning’ deals (something that’s ramped up dramatically during Prime Day itself).

Of course, Prime comes with a cost: of £8.99 a month, or £95 a year for a 12-month plan, but it also has a 30-day free trial period.

That’s more than enough time to cancel if you fancy picking up some exclusive bargains during Prime Day.

Unsurprisingly, Amazon doesn’t make the cancellation process easy – but we’ve got step-by-step instructions in our how to cancel Amazon Prime article.

What deals were available last October Prime Day?

We saw an epic range of price drops during the second Prime Day of 2022.

There were discounts across tech, home and garden, beauty and cosmetics, and much more.

We saw Amazon devices like Echo Dots, Ring Doorbells and Fire TV sticks drop to super-low prices, while prices on appliances from the likes of Shark and Ninja were also slashed.

On top of that, Amazon cut prices of subscription services like Audible, Amazon Music Unlimited and Kindle Unlimited.

We’re keeping our fingers crossed we’ll see the same kind of bargains pop up during Prime Big Deals Day.

Our tips for finding the best deals this Amazon Prime Day

IT might be tempting to dive in and snap up LOADS of items, but here’s how you can guarantee you’re getting a good deal on Amazon.

PREPARE Research the items you want to buy and find out the cheapest price. Websites like PriceSpy, PriceHistory and CamelCamelCamel will give you historical data on prices so you can see how much you should pay. You can also set up price alerts to let you know when the cost drops.

CHECK CAREFULLY Use FakeSpot to check whether the item is genuine or not. The site scans the reviews to see if they’re “reliable” or not so you can decide whether you trust the seller.

TRIAL IT FIRST Sign up for the 30-day Amazon Prime trial to take advantage of the Lightning Deals and free delivery. But remember to cancel the subscription before the trial is up or you’ll be charged the full £79.

SHOP NOW TO SAVE TIME Put the items you want in your basket ahead of Black Friday so that when the deals drop on June 21, all you’ll have to do is pay.

What is Amazon Prime Day?

Amazon Prime Day has been around for several years now, and it’s a firm fixture in the sales calendar.

It was originally launched in 2015 to celebrate Amazon’s 20th birthday but has since evolved into a cult-like sale a bit like Black Friday or Cyber Monday.

It usually lasts for a couple of days, with many new deals appearing on the second day.

You can expect to find low prices on Amazon’s own-brand items, along with plenty of branded goods and household names across a variety of departments – with brands

In fact, pretty much every last product category under the sun gets included in the Prime Day sale.

Of course, there’s a catch: read on to find out how to claim these exclusive Prime Day deals.

Amazon Prime vs Black Friday: which is best?

Amazon Prime Day is one of the busiest sales events of the summer.

But in terms of length, scale and discount quality, Black Friday is the reigning deals period of the year.

You’ll find terrific price drops during both sales – and it’s not impossible that some Prime Day offers may well match those you find during Black Friday in November.

But remember, the Prime Day deals are only available to people who have signed up to Amazon Prime, while Black Friday deals are available to all.

When is the next Amazon sale?

The next Amazon sale will, in all likelihood, will be Prime Day.

Luckily, you’ll only have to wait a couple more weeks for the two-day Prime-exclusive sale. The next one has historically always been scheduled for mid-July.

That’s a little more than a month away, and we think it’s pretty unlikely Amazon will play host to any major kind of sale before then.

That being said, you’ll always find various discounts listed on the retailer’s deals page.
