Mia Schem is a 21-year-old Israeli-French woman, from Shoham in Israel, who was being held captive in the Gaza Strip by the Palestinian terror group, Hamas.
On November 30, 2023, Mia, a tattoo artist, was released, after 55 days in captivity.
Mia was one of the eight final hostages who were released on Thursday before the end of the seven-day ceasefire, alongside Amit Soussana, 40.
Photos show the 21-year-old hugging her family for the first time since Hamas kidnapped her on October 7.
Mia was also pictured with her family at Sheba Medical Center in Ramat Gan, where she is receiving medical care following her ordeal.
Mia’s aunt Vivian Hadar said: “Finally she is with us. She was traumatised.
“She is thin, she is weak. A vet operated on her arm. She did not receive physiotherapy.
“She told them that she was not a soldier and that she has French citizenship.”
Hamas released their first clip showing Mia looking at the camera, as her arm lay wrapped in a slip on her lap, on October 16, 2023.
The 21-year-old told the camera she was being held in Gaza and pleaded for her release.
In the video posted to Telegram, Mia says: ”They are taking care of me, giving me medicine, everything is fine.
“I only ask that they bring me home as soon as possible to my parents, to my siblings.
“Get me out of here as soon as possible. Please.”
Mia said in the video that she had undergone a three-hour-long surgery in Gaza.
Mia’s aunt, Vivian, told Israeli media that a vet performed the three-hour surgery on Mia.
French President Emmanuel Macron celebrated the release of the 21-year-old, who has French-Israeli dual citizenship.
“Mia Schem is free,” he shared on X.
“I share this great joy with her family and all French people.
What happened to Mia Schem?
On October 7, 2023, Mia Schem was taken by the Palestinian terror group Hamas during their brutal assault on Israel at the Supernova music festival.
At least 260 festivalgoers lost their lives during the massacre and more than 190 hostages were taken by the terror group.
The Israel Defense Forces [IDF] confirmed that Mia was among those who had been kidnapped, after the horrific attack.
Mia’s family confirmed that they had identified Mia in the hostage video.
Mia’s aunt, Galit, told Israeli media: “Today [the family] called me screaming and told me that they see Mia in a video on Telegram.
“I saw her, and I thought I was dreaming. I finally saw the girl after all this time.
“She looks hurt and scared – but at least she’s alive.”
Galit also said: ”We demand that the countries of the free world make sure that she return to us.
”She was with a very good friend of hers – Elya Toledano, and we heard nothing more about him. We want to know he’s okay.”
Keren Schem, Mia’s devastated mother, who had last spoken to her daughter the day before the horrific attack on Israel, spoke at a press conference in Tel Aviv.
Keren broke down while holding up a photo of her stolen daughter, and said: ”I ask world leaders that my daughter be returned to us in the state that she is today, as well as the other hostages.
”I beg the world to return my baby to me.
”Now she is in Gaza. She is not the only one. There are many adults, children, babies, and Holocaust survivors.
”It is a crime against humanity. All together we need to stop this terror.”
