DYSON is known the world over for cleaning products that literally suck.
But the company recently announced a brand new machine that doesn’t rely on suction.
In fact, you can’t even use it on carpets.
The WashG1 is Dyson‘s first dedicated wet floor cleaning gizmo designed to replace the humble mop.
Why? Well, a Dyson study has found that three-quarters of UK households now have hard floors.
And as the firm pointed out during a recent hands-on test of the new product, mops are quite filthy too. After one dip, the water is made dirty by all the germs and nasties you’ve just sucked up as it rotates.
How does it work?
Dyson’s answer is making two individually powered rollers counter-rotate while water is pumped out.
The microfibre filament is effectively squeezed and scraped of dirt that’s just been scooped up.
Dirty water and hard debris is extracted and deposited into separate zones, so you can pour the water away without any bigger bits clogging your drainage.
It’s a unique approach in true Dyson fashion – but doesn’t come cheap either at £599.99.
What’s it like?
I got an early hands-on with the WashG1 for about ten minutes, so I’ve not had a chance to put it through its paces at home.
But my first thought is how effortless it makes cleaning hard floors.
The machine glides like butter (without the grease) and I didn’t break into a slight sweat as I do when moping.
As such, you can see how this would save you a lot of time cleaning a bigger home.
We applied ketchup sauce to a marble surface and the mess was out of sight after a couple of easy wipes.
However, I did notice that it struggles more to reach into those tight tile gaps.
Elsewhere, it was really satisfying to see the dirty water fill up while I still had clean liquid to use elsewhere.
There’s a removable tray at the bottom that collects the hard debris, which I thought filled up quite quickly.
I’m interested to see whether that will overfill too soon in a full test.
We’ll hopefully be able to put it through thorough testing at a later date.
The WashG1 is due for release in the autumn time.
