FANS are convinced American cyclist Kristen Faulkner did not realise she had won the women’s road race after she crossed the line without any celebration.
On Saturday, Belgian Remco Evenepoel commemorated his victory in the men’s road race by climbing off his bike and posing in front of the Eiffel Tower – which is displayed in the background of the finish.

As Faulkner came to the finish, she simply rode past the line as if she had not won.
And many on social media believe she was unaware she had claimed gold.
One said: “Faulkner didn’t even celebrate at first. Did she know she had won gold when she crossed the line?”
While another added: “She powers over the line and doesn’t even celebrate, maybe doesn’t realise she’s won.”
A third replied: “Still riding .”
But others had differing theories as to why she did not celebrate.
One person believes she was simply playing it cool, saying: “‘Act like you’ve done it before’ Great ride.”

But another social media user thinks she was simply confused by all the lines on the road, adding: “There’s another line there and paint. I would have done the same and rode past the whole mess.”
Dutchwoman Marianne Vos, who won the road race in London 12 years ago, took silver ahead of Belgian world champion Lotte Kopecky who claimed bronze.
Following her victory, Faulkner said: “This is a dream come true.
“I’m still looking at that finish line sign wondering how my name got there.”
