One shopper, Samantha Rogers, recently took to the popular
Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK group after she got her hands on ”free” money.

Informing fellow thrifty Brits, the young woman explained the easy steps Tesco shoppers have to complete in order to qualify for the cash.

The trick is simple, she shared in the post – rather than using your debit or credit card, or banknotes to do the weekly grocery shop, purchase a gift card prior to heading into the store.

Samantha wrote: ”Tesco club card challenge, not sure if everyone knows but if you buy a Tesco gift card of £55 before doing your food shop and then pay using the gift card, you complete the gift card challenge.”

After giving it a go herself, the Tesco customer was delighted to see that the trick had worked – and she landed herself ”free” money.

”Tried it too see if it would work and it did! And I was going to spend that amount anyway so £13.80 towards Christmas vouchers for basically free.”

With the costs soaring and cash-strapped households on the lookout for easy ways to make extra money on side, it’s no wonder the post has taken the internet by storm.

Since being shared on the group – home to more than 2.6million bargain hunters – it’s already racked up more than 160 likes in just four hours.

Close to 80 people flocked to comments to tag their pals, with many thanking the customer.

One appeared to have heard this for the first time, writing: ”WHAT!!!! That’s mad!!!! I need to do this.”

Another chimed in: ”I did the challenge twice and got over £50 in club card vouchers, it just appeared under the club card in the app and I clicked on it.

”Haven’t had it since but definitely worth it.”

”Wow that good try that next time I go shopping,” a third wrote.

Insider tip from a Tesco employee

A Tesco employee has revealed a surprising secret about the self-scan trolleys.

According to the worker, random checks on customers using these trolleys are not entirely random.

The checks are actually triggered by a specific customer habit.

If you frequently pick up and put down items without scanning them, you’re more likely to be selected for a check.

This is due to the system detecting suspicious behaviour, which could indicate potential theft.

So, to avoid delays, it’s best to scan items immediately after placing them in your trolley.

However, it seems that there is a catch, as some Tesco shoppers have noted that they don’t have access to the challenge.

One person explained: ”Not everyone has the same challenges – they focus it on your usual spending.”

”They options are suited to things you’ve bought,” a second added.

”I don’t really buy gift cards so didn’t have this option but it might be worth starting to try and get this option next time.”
