The eagerly anticipated pairings for the competition were revealed on Tuesday.

And tennis fans were stunned to see the 2021 US Open winner paired up with Spanish sensation Carlos Alcaraz.

Social media was abuzz upon the announcement of the pairings, with tennis aficionados unable to help but comment on Raducanu and Alcaraz’s joining of forces.

One wrote on Instagram: “Carlos and Emma?!!! Wow.”

Another said: “Not Carlos and Emma.”

And another said: “Carlos and Emma coming full circle.”

One remarked: “Raducanu and Alcaraz, wow.”

Another chimed in by claiming: “They were a thing, I’m not surprised.”

Raducanu and Alcaraz, both 22, were the subject of wild dating rumours in 2024.

They heated up last July when Raducanu watched the Spaniard dominate Novak Djokovic in the Wimbledon final.

Alcaraz, however, quelled speculation that they were an item in the aftermath of his destruction of Djokovic.

He admitted: “‘I am looking for someone.

“It can be difficult as a tennis player to meet the right person because you are travelling all the time.”

Those hopeful of seeing Raducanu and Alcaraz play together may be left disappointed as the duo have yet to confirm if they’ll indeed compete in the tournament.

The deadline for them to do so is July 28.

The re-imagined mixed doubles championship will break protocol this year by taking place a week before the main tournament.

The decision was made in a bold bid to try to entice some of the bigger names in the sport to compete in it.
