I ended up with red wine spilled all over my dress at a wedding – the bride just laughed but I got my revenge

THERE’S no use crying over spilled milk, but there is reason to exact revenge over spilled wine.

One wedding guest’s choice of dress turned into one unceremonious disaster.

DRESS DISASTER

Reddit user (@magicmanbutagal) was still in disbelief over what went down at her cousin’s wedding.

She explained how her family is Indian while her cousin’s now husband is white, prompting them to have two ceremonies “like the Jonas-Chopra wedding,” she said.

“Lots went down, and I am getting flack for my dress,” she said.

For the Christian part of the ceremony, she went with a pink floral-themed frock.

She thought she had found the perfect $79.99 Lulus satin midi dress featuring spaghetti straps and a slit.

She was looking forward to the nuptials of the cousin she was closest to, and even decided to “go all out” with her gift.

“My family got them something, and I added a little envelope with a check for a grand that I had saved from working,” she said.

The traditional ghagra choli attire she had worn to the Indian ceremony was perfectly acceptable, so she thought her similar-looking floral dress would be just fine for the second part.

However, that was not the case.

“My dress was deemed inappropriate,” she said.

She was even approached by the bridegroom’s family telling her as much.

What was even more surprising was why they found an issue with the frock.

“I thought it was because of the slit, but they all said it looked too pale and unacceptable, even though it was a blush pink with bright, almost neon colors on it,” she said.

She also explained that the ceremony took place in an outdoor botanical garden rather than a church.

After apologizing and explaining that she didn’t have anything else to change into that was “suitable enough” for a wedding, she continued to enjoy the special day.

She thought the matter was settled and moved on.

WHINE ABOUT IT

Some liquid courage, however, only added more drama to the dress debacle.

“I was on the dance floor partying it up with family and friends when I felt a splash down my front,” she said.

At first, she was so bewildered she couldn’t figure out what had happened.

“There was this huge red wine stain dripping down my front,” she said.

That was when she noticed her cousin’s husband’s sister, mom, and aunt all laughing – and she saw the culprit.

His sister was the one holding the glass.

“I saw red, and that’s when I snapped. I started yelling about how they ruined a brand new dress for a stupid reason,” she said.

“They kept laughing, and I saw my cousin and her husband grin,” she added.

LAST LAUGH

It was at that moment that she knew just how she was going to exact revenge.

“I decided I would leave and take back the check. That’s when they stopped laughing,” she said.

After realizing just how much money was in the envelope, the family started to “apologize” and even attempted to get her to stay.

While they explained how the money would be a tremendous help for them, she was having none of it.

“I left because I felt disrespected,” she said.

While her cousin’s husband’s family as well as her own parents all said leaving with the gift was in “bad taste for different reasons,” she wasn’t changing her mind.

“My family wants me to keep the peace, but I don’t want to give my hard-earned money to horrid people,” she said.

Despite receiving relentless calls and messages, she still refused to face her cousin until her husband apologized.

RIGHT OR WRONG

She now wanted other Reddit users to weigh in on the wedding day fiasco and determine if she was the a**hole.

“I took back a gift and I usually believe once a gift is given, you can’t take it back. The dress is also a light pink, but is nowhere near white in my opinion,” said one user.

“I wouldn’t treat her. You said she giggled with her husband. Any seeming apologetic actions after were to get the money. Don’t do it. Treat yourself only,” wrote another user.

“Keep the money,” a third reader shared.

According to Martha Stewart, some wedding guest dress code no-nos include wearing white, as well as revealing attire, or donning anything too flashy.

Everyday casual attire is also frowned upon.
