In a photo on the EastEnders Instagram page, there is an image of Callum (Tony Clay) with his arm around Martin Fowler.

And now eagle-eyed followers have spotted that Callum doesn’t appear to be wearing his ring, which suggests that he and Ben did, in the end split up.

Writing on the social media site, one said: “ Where’s Callum’s ring.”

Another said: “Does Callum have his wedding ring on?”

Meanwhile, another said: “Callum and Martin, now that would make a great plot twist.”

And another said: “Callum’s moved on quickly if only Martin was gay.”

In recent months Ben and Callum have been through a turbulent time, after Ben was arrested for credit card fraud in America, when he left for the US to find a miracle cure for Lola Pearce Brown.

Hoping for bail, Ben and his father Phil Mitchell plotted for him to feel the country but he was later denied bail.

An incandestcent Callum refused to see Ben after feeling cheated by his husband, but in the end paid a visit to Ben in his cell, who tried to end the marriage, but Callum said he wouldn’t allow himself to be pushed away.

He insisted that he would be waiting for Ben when he got out of prison as Ben broke down in tears.

The emotional episode marks the final scene for actor Max Bowden who had an abrupt exist storyline written for him, after it was confirmed last year that he would leave the BBC soap in the spring.

Indeed the actor who has played the role for five years, will now transfer from the small screen to treading the boards, as he’ll star in the lead role of Jack Firebrace in the UK tour of Sebastian Faulks novel Birdsong.

In December last year, The Sun on Sunday exclusively revealed how the 29-year-old actor had been axed after a showdown with bosses.

After his exit from the BBC soap, Max took to social media to share a powerful quote about making mistakes and trying again.

The quote said: “No one knows what they are doing. Not even the ones with degrees, big job titles or people on your vision board.

“Everyone is just trying loudly, failing loudly, and trying again. And so should you.”

The actor was caught up in real-life drama behind the scenes at Albert Square when his love life began to look like an EastEnders plotline.

In May 2022, he began an affair with his 32-year-old co-star Shona McGarty, who plays Whitney Dean.

At the time, Max’s insurance executive partner Roisin Buckle, 38, was pregnant and thought they were just on a break.

Last year Shona quit the soap after 15 years to pursue other projects.
