Coronation Street chaos as character rushed to hospital after horror collapse at home alone

THERE was chaos in Coronation Street tonight as one character was rushed to hospital after a terrifying collapse when they were home alone.

Weatherfield General Hospital has featured in a number of episodes recently, following Roy Cropper’s prison collapse last month and Aadi Alahan’s carbon monoxide earlier this year.

Sadly, in tonight’s episode, it was the turn of Paul Foreman to seek a hospital bed after he started struggling to breath.

The character is battling Motor Neurone Disease (MND) and it has started to impact his speech and what he can eat and drink.

Paul was left shocked earlier this week on Coronation Street when his estranged dad Denny arrived on the Cobbles wanting to spend time with him.

Against his loved ones’ better judgement, Paul went out with him and ended up getting drunk in the pub, before being sick on himself once he was back home.

The next day, Denny wanted to see his son again and watch a film, but said he would head out to get ice cream first, leaving Paul alone in the flat.

Denny was in no hurry to rush back as he talked to daughter Gemma and convinced her to let him meet his grandchildren.

Meanwhile Paul had a coughing fit and started struggling to breath, but as he called emergency services, he dropped his mobile phone and couldn’t tell them what was happening.

When Denny finally came back, he found Paul barely conscious on the sofa and called an ambulance, and Billy arrived in time to see his husband being put into the back of it.

The couple were taken to hospital but were forced to wait outside in the ambulance with Asha Alahan for over 30 minutes.

Eventually, a bed became free and Paul’s mum Bernie rushed to be with them, as did his sister Gemma – with a begrudging Denny trailing behind.

Billy revealed Paul had aspiration pneumonia and glaring at Denny, he added: “From accidentally inhaling his vomit yesterday.”

Gemma then revealed Denny was lying about why he had taken so long to come to the hospital, but he lashed out.

He said to Bernie: “It’s probably your fault he’s got MND, the amount of pills she shoved down her neck in the 80s.

“She was the ecstasy queen her!”

Coronation Street's shock exits 2024

Corrie has said goodbye to several cast members this year. Let's break down who's left the famous soap:

Eliza Woodrow (Savannah Kunyo) has said farewell to Corrie to start a new life in Germany.

The youngster moved to live with her dad Dom Everett, who went back on the £10,000 bribe Eliza’s grandfather Stu had offered to keep him out of her life.

Paul Foreman will bow out of the soap this summer when he loses his fight with motor neurone disease (MND) in tragic scenes.

After being diagnosed last year, the fan favourite, portrayed by Peter Ash, was devastated to learn he only had months left to live.

Viewers know he is planning to take his own life to end his suffering.

Summer Spellman (Harriet Bibby) departed the cobbles after being offered the opportunity of a lifetime to study in America.

Though she struggled to decide with her stepdad Paul’s impending death from MND, she was convinced she had to live her life to the full.

Simon Barlow (Alex Bain) has struggled with the sudden departure of his father Peter from the cobbles.

The Weatherfield legend left his family and loved ones behind on Boxing Day, 2023, when his wife Carla Connor encouraged him to travel around the world with a friend.

Simon’s been on a downward spiral ever since and his exit could end in tragedy.

Alya Nazir is set to leave the cobbles as actress Sair Khan prepares to go on maternity leave ahead of the birth of her first child.

It looks likely she’ll be heading to Dublin after securing a lucrative new job, leaving her colleague and fling Adam Barlow behind.

Show stalwart Eileen Grimshaw is taking a break to star in the Sister Act The Musical UK tour.

She’s had to leave the Street immediately after her son Jason broke his back after falling off a moped in Asia. She will be back filming in May once her dates on the tour come to an end.

Paul told him he wouldn’t stand for him speaking to Bernie like that, and Denny replied: “Fine by me, I’ll leave you to it, you lot are welcome to each other.”

But outside the hospital, his true intentions were revealed as he was seen on the phone plotting to sell Paul’s electric wheelchair the next day.

Coronation Street airs on ITV1 and is available on ITVX.
