Mark Hogben (@markhogben) filmed himself discussing his lifestyle in a video on TikTok.

“Hi my name is Mark Hogben and this is where I live,” he said, gesturing to an elaborate cabin.

“My heating is all with wood. I keep my water out of the lake, I haul it up in buckets.

“I live in lake Kipawa Quebec Canada I’ve been living here for five years,” he added.

In yet another video he gave even more insight into his off-grid ways.

“So my off-grid care cabin is dry in the winter, which means I have to use buckets of water, bring up the water,” he said.

“See, I have a water tower, but it can’t sustain freezing temperatures. All my pipes break.

“So I’m getting all my buckets ready, cleaning them, getting them all set up, because by the end of this month I’ll most likely be hauling buckets up by hand,” he added.

The videos drew in many viewers who share their two cents on the lifestyle.

“You’re an inspiration to a lot of people. Stay strong my friend,” one wrote.

“Hang in there brother, winter is coming,” another added.

“Thanks for sharing. I love seeing glimpses of people’s lives across the globe,” a third commented.

“It’s actually done me a lot of good, too, thank you,” Mark replied.

“Want some company?” a third asked. “I am a pretty decent cook.”

“I’m sure we get along quite well but I thrive on solitude,” Mark wrote back.

“Would you be open to someone being there helping you?” yet another wrote.

“No people,” Mark responded. “I have a dog.”
