Nick Knowles lands new show just days after getting engaged

NICK KNOWLES is off travelling again just weeks after proposing to his girlfriend with a Haribo sweet ring in the States.

The DIY SOS presenter, who popped the question to Katie Dadzie last month, will continue his globetrotting for Channel 5 in a new series that has just started production.

Nick Knowles: Into… is taking him from one side of the world to the other, and follows his two-part travel special for Channel Five on the Grand Canyon earlier this year.

A source said: “This new series has big things planned, with Nick travelling to an expansive list of destinations.

“Sadly, it doesn’t appear Katie will be joining him, which means they could be apart for some time.”

BOSSES ARE OUT IN HOLLYOAKS CRISIS

HOLLYOAKS has been plunged into crisis with three top bosses leaving amid record low ratings and problems on set.

The Channel 4 soap is reeling after executive producer Lucy Allan, series producer Philip Dodds and script and storyline executive Josie Day went in a shock meeting yesterday.

A source said: “The set is in chaos.

“Cast and crew were clearly unhappy with the way things are going. Morale’s never been this low.

“Ratings have plunged, storylines aren’t working and things were just so toxic on set.

“So Lime Pictures had to do something.

“It felt like the three chiefs insisted on pushing their agenda and actors were in open revolt.”

In the past two years, ratings have gone from 2million a night to as little as 200,000.

Cast members have also been “embarrassed” by stunt casting and novelty appearances such as AJ and Curtis Pritchard’s much- derided feature and a stint by Bez From Happy Mondays.

An email seen by The Sun was yesterday sent to cast and crew announcing the departures.

But the good news for fans is that there is no danger of the show itself being axed.

An insider said: “Channel 4 want Hollyoaks to succeed. It’s still hugely popular with youth audiences and it has such strong potential.”

Kate Little and Claire Poyser, managing directors of Lime Pictures, which makes the soap, said:

“We would like to thank Lucy for everything she has done for Hollyoaks, leading the programme through Covid and its aftermath, forging a ground-breaking partnership with the BBC and Eurovision and delivering unforgettable, critically acclaimed storylines such as Misbah’s rape and The Long Walk Home.”

Miles Nazaire teased: “It hasn’t been this savage in a very long time.

“It kind of reminds me of the old days, which is a blessing and a curse.

“With all these new characters in the show, with some originals as well, it got very intense.

“It got out of hand. I got to a point where I was like, ‘We’re not adults right now, we’re acting up’.

Even Harvey Armstrong cried, it was chaotic.

“There were just a lot of emotions. It was crazy.”

David Templer added: “It was like a volcano erupting.”

Joining the original line-up are Nima Taleghani, Bradley Riches, Bel Priestley and Ash Self.

The second run of episodes sees on-screen couple Charlie and Nick, played by Joe Locke and Kit Connor, head to Paris.

Bradley, who plays James McEwan, says having queer accounts in the series is vital.

He added: “A show like this inspires people to be themselves. It would have helped me in my coming out.

“If I had a show like this when I was 14 or 15, I could have been prouder of who I am today.”

Heartstopper is available to stream on Netflix.
