In 2017 Jamie Lynn Spears, who is starring on the UK reality TV show I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here, opened up about an accident her daughter her had.
Speaking to Maria Menounos on her podcast Better Together with Maria Menounos, Jamie Lynn admitted the family thought they “had lost her forever”.
Detailing how the events unfolded over the Super Bowl weekend, Jamie Lynn told Maria: “My oldest daughter was in a really bad accident”.
She explained how Maddie was riding on an ATV near her family “with every safety measure that could be taken” when she “somehow or another, drove into the water”.
Britney Spears’ younger sibling continued: “We dove in and we were able to rescue her.
“When we were finally able to get her out of the water…and the first responders took her from me, we thought she was gone, we thought we lost our daughter.
“That moment, I felt everything that you can feel, I think, as far as the worst.
“There’s nothing worse than looking at your child and just feeling that you’ve failed her, and I didn’t want her to think that I couldn’t save her.”
Jamie Lynn continued, detailing how Maddie was airlifted to the hospital after firefighters were able to find a pulse.
She said: “She wasn’t responding to anything and so it was not looking good for us”.
The actress then asked a priest to be let into the intensive care unit to pray for Maddie as a “worse case scenario.”
“He went to put the oil on her and read the rites and she sat up and started kicking, and her hands started grabbing at all the things,” Spears said.
“That was our first sign that she was there.”
The family kept her fans up to date with Maddie’s condition and urged them to pray for her.
Britney and Jamie Lynn, who has joined British celebrities like Marvin Humes and Josie Gibson in the 2023 I’m A Celebrity jungle, have had a fractured relationship since around 2018.
