Who is Allan Gore?

Allan Gore was married to elementary school teacher Betty Gore.

The two previously met back when Betty went to college in Kansas, where Allan worked as a teacher’s assistant.

The ex-couple eventually moved to Texas and seemed to have the perfect marriage.

However, it was revealed that the marriage was filled with infidelity and boredom.

In Texas, Alan began an affair with Candace “Candy” Montgomery.

What happened to Betty Gore?

In 1980, Betty Gore was murdered by Candy Montgomery when Candy hit her 41 times with an axe.

At the time, Allan was out of town for work, and Candy had gone over to the Gore residence to pick up a swimsuit for their daughter, who was spending the night at Candy’s home.

After he did not hear from his wife, Allan became concerned and asked neighbors to check in at the house.

The neighbours went into the house and found Betty’s body, as well as Betty’s one year old baby who had been left for 13 hours.

Candy later confessed to murdering her but claimed that she acted in self-defence after Betty confronted her about the affair she had with her husband.

Allan was reportedly never a serious suspect in Betty’s murder and it was actually his confession of the affair that led police to Candy in the first place.

Candy was then charged with murder but was found not guilty in 1984 by a jury.

Allan has since kept a low profile and lives in Sarasota, Florida with his partner.

He has not commented on the HBO dramatisation of his wife’s murder.

What TV shows depict the Allan and Betty Gore case?

Betty’s story is the subject of Hulu’s Candy, starring Jessica Biel, and HBO’s Love and Death series, with Elizabeth Olsen.

Although Hulu’s series came out a year before HBO’s, Elizabeth’s Marvel fame drew a huge audience to Love and Death.

Elizabeth’s fans and true crime buffs can watch the HBO series on the ITVX streaming service, where Candy can be found on Disney+.
