Penny put on the event, and was left unaware that Chelsea Fox secretly sold more tickets than the venue had capacity for to sabotage her.

Poor Penny is now being investigated by police as lives hang in the balance after catastrophic injuries caused by the crush.

Amy Mitchell is fighting for survival in a hospital bed in the wake of the terrifying incident.

She was wheeled out of the club on a stretcher after help finally arrived at Peggy’s, and her dad heard paramedics shouting for assistance as she went into cardiac arrest.

Lauren Branning has also been left with a damaged lung and has chest injuries after being pushed up against other people in the club.

The serious scenes are a reminder of similar real life tragic events which have claimed lives in the UK.

While EastEnders fans were left heartbroken to see how some of their favourite characters have been endangered, some viewers spotted a couple of blunders made by the soap bosses.

One viewer took to social media to point out that producers had reused the audio that was played during the famous moment when the Queen Vic was burnt down in 2010.

A shocked soap fan exclaimed: “That’s so amazing listening skills! Now I can’t unhear it.”

Another added: “Help I realised that too.”

Besides the old sound bite being recycled, viewers also noticed that despite being right next to the club event, Junior and Cindy did not hear people screaming.

The pair have been having an illicit affair in EastEnders and on the night when the club crush happened, both of them ducked into a side room at Peggy’s for a romp.

That happened to be one of the exits to the club, and their obstruction meant people became trapped in the crowd.

But neither of the lovers appeared to hear the party-goers next door crying out for help.

One person queried: “How can Cindy and Junior not hear everyone screaming??”

Another asked: “How could Cindy and Junior, hear the fire alarm, but not hear any of the screaming and shouting going on outside until people were literally banging on the glass?”

A third chimed in incredulously, saying: “You’re telling me Cindy and Junior can’t hear all the commotion.”
