Who is Nathan De Asha and where is he from?

Nathan De Asha is an IFBB professional bodybuilder and sponsored athlete who was born in Liverpool, England on June 8, 1988.

His first exposure to weight training came at the age of 18 when he sought to gain weight and improve his physical performance on the soccer field, which he played seriously before converting to bodybuilding.

Nathan competed at a high level as a youngster, qualifying for Liverpool FC’s youth teams — he is still a big fan of The Reds to this day.

He found himself drawn to bodybuilding as he experienced quick results and developed a passion for lifting weights.

Speaking with GreatestPhysiques.com, Nathan said he was initially “intimidated” by the environment of a local “backstreet gym” filled with experienced lifters.

While he took to bodybuilding quickly, at first he didn’t think of it as a true sport, believing it was just “guys putting on these little trunks and painting on a fake tan.”

His determination to improve his physique led him to educate himself about bodybuilding through literature, which further fuelled his interest in the sport.

More than just a hobby

For a living, Nathan works as a professional bodybuilder and sponsored athlete.

Nathan received his Pro Card at the 2014 British Championships, having won a number of local and national amateur competitions.

He made his professional debut in 2016 and has been competing in various bodybuilding competitions ever since.

Speaking about diving straight into the deep end of competing, Nathan told GreatestPhysiques: “I know a lot of guys now like to take time off and skip the bigger shows until they think they’re ready, but that makes no sense to me… you never know what’s going to happen in life.

“That might have been your only chance. And if you qualify for the Olympia and skip it, you just took that chance away from some other guy who would have loved to get up on that stage.”

Is Nathan De Asha competing in Mr Olympia 2024?

Nathan has been absent from the Mr Olympia stage since 2018 due a series of injuries and some visa issues.

But he qualified for Mr Olympia 2024 by winning the 2024 Mr Big Evolution Pro on July 7, 2024, in Estoril, Portugal.

The competition featured nine pro divisions, with Mr Olympia qualification on the line — the 2024 edition is scheduled for October 10-13 in Las Vegas.

Nathan’s next goal was to win gold at the 2024 Dubai Pro on July 28, 2024, and take home the $100,000 winner’s check.

But in the end he had to settle for bronze behind William Bonac, who won silver, and gold medallist Behrooz Tabani.

Nathan’s weight ranges from 245 to 255lbs (111.1 – 115.7 kg).
