England football legend working on warts-and-all documentary

FORMER England star Wayne Rooney is making a sequel to his sensational Prime Video documentary after it proved such a hit last year.

The show, simply called Rooney, was a warts-and-all look at his professional and private life – and the follow up promises to be just as in-depth.

Only this time the new programme, which has yet to get a working title, will focus more on Wayne’s attempts to develop his career as a football manager in the US.

A TV insider said: “The doc is in the very early stages of development but given how big the first show was, there’s a real appetite for more.

“There’s continued interest, not just in Wayne, but his entire family, particularly after the epic Wagatha legal battle which saw wife Coleen Rooney taking centre stage for a change.

“It’s not certain which channel or streaming service would air the show, but Prime Video would be the obvious choice given they aired the first profile.”

Disney+ will imminently release Coleen Rooney: The Real Wagatha Story, focusing on her courtroom clash with Rebekah Vardy last year.

But there’s unlikely to be any clash between the respective shows from Mr and Mrs Rooney as the second doc on Wayne’s life is unlikely to drop until 2024 at the earliest.

There’s certainly plenty to explore in the programme thanks to his interesting move from English football to the US where he last year became manager of D.C. United, in Washington D.C..

The show is being developed by top production company Lorton, who made Prime Video’s Rooney and are making Coleen’s Wagatha documentary.

They also produced We Are Newcastle United and Boom Boom!: Boris Becker VS The World.

Prime Video and Lorton declined to comment.
