THE WHO seem to be Getting In Tune for some new tracks — though not in the way you might expect.
The band’s guitarist Pete Townshend is working on the musical score for his hit 2019 novel The Age Of Anxiety.
Confirming the project, he told me: “I am still developing the score and recording the music.
“I am also working on a documentary about the project, from its inception in 2007 until today. I’m probably two years off completing it, at which time I hope to perform it with a full opera and a cast of guest singers.”
Pete’s novel explores the anxieties of modern life with a range of different characters.
The Who are known for their concept records, with Pete writing most of album Tommy, a rock opera telling the story of character Tommy Walker, which was released in 1969.
He also came up with the concept behind Quadrophenia, their 1973 album which told the story of Mod Jimmy.
Both became hit movies. But Pete isn’t the only member of The Who with a passion project on the side.
Roger Daltrey revealed last year that he had written the script for a film biopic about the band’s late drummer Keith Moon.
Keith died in 1978, aged just 32, and Roger said he wanted to immortalise his incredible life on the big screen
He added: “I’ve written a film script about his life because I have never met anyone in my life similar to Keith. He was the funniest man I ever met.
“But he couldn’t control his talent.
“If you were trying to make a film and you asked him, ‘Could you do that again?’, he’d go, ‘No’. He couldn’t do it again.
“Everything was polar opposites with him.
“Yes, he was incredibly flawed, he had incredible tragedy in his life.
“But everybody who knew him, who met him, loved him.”

The couple haven’t spoken publicly about their romance since The Sun revealed this month that they were an item.
But Jess’s new tune certainly isn’t about her current partner.
It focuses on regretting a fall out with someone you’re close to.
There may be a few love songs on her next album, though.
Kylie’s such a busy las
AS if she wasn’t going to be occupied enough with her Las Vegas residency, Kylie Minogue has revealed she is going to be working on her next album at the same time.
The Spinning Around singer, who will play a series of gigs at The Venetian Resort in the city, has grand plans for the follow-up to Tension, which went straight to No1 this month.
Kylie said: “How I feel about it and how I feel about my main co-writers is we’ve tapped into something that I’d love to explore more.
“I don’t think I’ll be that fast but I do think I’ll start working on it (in Vegas).”
Kylie has already called upon her long-term collaborators to lend a hand, including Richard “Biff” Stannard, Duck Blackwell and Jackson Foote.
She told the Billboard Pop Shop podcast: “I just send them a message, ‘Incoming, expect blah, blah, blah, turn it into magic if it isn’t’.
“But I only send stuff that is fit to be sent.
“There’s some people I work with – the team I talk about a lot – that actually I could send something that was terrible, like, ‘Here’s the idea, just something to get us going’.
“I would feel comfortable with those people, but not with everyone.”
SARA COX reckons Zoe Ball would be on the phone to a lawyer if she ever spilled the stories of their wild times together.
They were “ladette” party animals during their early days on Radio 1 in the mid-Nineties.
Sara told the Changes With Annie MacManus podcast: “Zoe Ball’s lawyers would be banging on to me. I wouldn’t do that. We have an unspoken pact to zip it.
“I was never going to do a memoir of my work life.”
SARA DALLIN and Keren Woodward have dropped new Bananarama single Feel The Love.
It will feature on a greatest hits LP, Glorious: The Ultimate Collection, due out next March, to celebrate four decades of the group. They will also play the London Palladium on April 3.
Keren said: “We have maybe felt that we haven’t received the credit, respect and recognition we deserve.
“I feel the collection of songs we have amassed hopefully speak for themselves.

THERE is no sign of a Bad Romance for Lady Gaga and boyfriend Michael Polansky.
The singer and the tech entrepreneur held hands in New York following her appearance on US sketch show Saturday Night Live.
Pals told how the pair had ended their three-year romance earlier this year but last month were spotted together in Las Vegas.
They say the course of true love never did run smooth.
Mollie’s second date is off
MOLLIE KING’s career as a TV presenter has come to an abrupt end as her first major hosting gig has been axed after just one series.
Discovery+ has shelved her dating show Beauty And The Geek, which The Saturdays singer fronted with her Radio 1 co-host Matt Edmondson, as it failed to capture viewers’ attention last year.
A source said: “The original series aired in 2006 on E4 and people were thrilled that it was returning.
“But it was a bit of a damp squib this time around.
“It was decided that it wouldn’t return – not right now, anyway.”
It’s a shame it hasn’t worked out, but given Mollie is already juggling being a new mum with her radio shows, perhaps this has been a blessing in disguise.

“Since those pictures of him looking like Daniel Craig coming out of the water came out, girls have been hanging around to see if they can see him.
“I even saw a pair trying to get into the men’s changing rooms.”

And with 36 gigs still to play, the Hello singer hopes to make her Weekends With Adele residency that little bit easier by finding somewhere she can call home, instead of staying in hotels.
Adele makes the 1hr 15min flight from Beverly Hills every weekend but is said to have her eye on a swanky gaff just 15 minutes from the strip.
The gated community has fitness centres and spas which I’m sure she would put to good use after quitting the vino and transforming her look.
