Amanda was absent from the latest live show, which saw Eddie and Love Island‘s Zara McDermott in the dance-off.

Eddie was sent home, but fans believe it wasn’t a fair contest as Amanda and her pro Giovanni Pernice had not taken part.

Writing on X, formerly known as Twitter, one fan demanded: “So now Amanda’s gone, Eddie should be brought back, he didn’t deserve to go over Zara this weekend.”

Another also asked: “Can Eddie come back to Strictly then if Amanda has quit??”

A third echoed: “Well if Amanda has quit #Strictly they should bring Eddie back.”

And a fourth agreed: “That’s why it’s a mess, if someone doesn’t take part there should be no dance off.”

News of Amanda’s Strictly departure broke late on Monday afternoon.

The 49-year-old Sherlock actress was missing from this weekend’s shows due to undisclosed medical reasons.

Amanda had been expected to make a comeback this Saturday night for the BBC show’s Halloween special.

But Strictly has since confirmed her departure on spin-off show It Takes Two, with host Fleur East addressing the situation.

Reading out the official statement, Fleur said: “Amanda Abbington is unable to continue in Strictly and has decided to withdraw from the competition.

“The show wishes her all the best for the future.”

A short clip was then played of Amanda’s best bits, as Fleur added: “Amanda, we are sending you all of our love.”

Friends have said the Sherlock actress is being supported by her dance partner Giovanni.

A source told The Sun: “It was a gruelling few weeks for Amanda which took its toll physically and mentally.

“Amanda and Gio had fantastic chemistry on-screen and there were high hopes they could go all the way.

“Everyone is incredibly sad but just wish Amanda all the best.”

Last month, The Sun reported how Amanda and her Italian dance partner had clashed, with the actress threatening to quit over the dance pro’s “militant” attitude to training.

Giovanni later said: “It’s a difficult process, especially for people who have never done Strictly before.”
