WEST London team Chelsea have played on the same Stamford Bridge grounds since they first formed in 1905.
But what about the fan-favourite chants that keep the Blues going?
Stamford Bridge is the historic home of Chelsea Football Club[/caption]What are the Chelsea chants?
Carefree
This chant is to the tune of the chorus of Lord of the Dance by The Dubliners:
Carefree, wherever you may be,
We are the famous CFC,
And we don’t give a f***
Wherever you may be,
‘Cause we are the famous CFC.
We all Follow the Chelsea
There’s some dispute about why Leicester is included in this Chelsea chant, but some suggest it is a reference to the two clubs’ bitter rivalry in the 70s and 80s.
We all follow the Chelsea,
Over land and sea (and Leicester!)
We all follow the Chelsea,
On to victory.
(Altogether now!)
10 Men Went to Mow
Possibly the most iconic Chelsea chant, 10 Men Went to Mow, goes like this:
One man went to mow,
Went to mow a meadow,
One man and his dog (spot!)
Went to mow a meadow.
Two men went to mow,
Went to mow a meadow,
Two men, one man and his dog (spot!)
Went to mow a meadow.
And so on, until (standing):
Ten men went to mow,
Went to mow a meadow,
Ten men, nine men, eight men, seven men, six men, five men, four men, three men, two men, one man and his dog (spot!)
Went to mow a meadow.
Keep the Blue Flag Flying High
This long-standing Chelsea chant is to the tune of the 19th-century socialist song “The Red Flag”, which is also the anthem of the Labour Party.
Flying high, up in the sky,
We’ll keep the blue flag flying high
From Stamford Bridge to Wemb(er)ley
We’ll keep the blue flag flying high
Super Frankie Lampard
Fans have come up with a chant in honour of former Chelsea legend, Frank Lampard, still heard at Stamford Bridge.
Super, super Frank
Super, super Frank
Super, super Frank
Super Frankie Lampard
The Liquidator
Many clubs play an instrumental version of Harry J Allstars’ 1969 reggae song, The Liquidator.
Chelsea, Wolverhampton Wanderers, and West Bromwich Albion all claim to be the first to do so.
It became an official Chelsea walk-out song in 1970.
Blue is the Colour
The original version of this legendary Chelsea song was recorded by the squad in 1972, and even reached number one in the UK.
Blue is the colour, football is the game
We’re all together, and winning is our aim
So cheer us on through the sun and rain
’cause Chelsea, Chelsea is our name
Here at the Bridge whether rain or fine
We can shine all the time
Home or away, come and see us play
You’re welcome any day
Blue is the colour, football is the game
We’re all together, and winning is our aim
So cheer us on through the sun and rain
’cause Chelsea, Chelsea is our name
Come to the Shed and we’ll welcome you
Wear your blue and see us through
Sing loud and clear until the game is done
Sing Chelsea everyone.
Chelsea, Chelsea
The clue is in the name — this is a simple chant:
Chelsea, Chelsea, Chelsea, Chelsea
Blue Day
Blue Day was released as a single by English singer Suggs, with backing from the Chelsea squad, when they were playing in the FA Cup final.
It reached number 22 in the UK singles chart.
It’s now sung by fans at Stamford Bridge home games.
The only place to be
Every other Saturday
Is strollin’ down the Fulham Road
Meet your mates and have a drink
Have a moan and start to think
Will there ever be a blue tomorrow?
We’ve waited so long
But we’d wait for ever
Our blood is blue and
We would leave you never
And when we make it
It’ll be together
Chelsea Chelsea, Chelsea Chelsea
We’re gonna make this a Blue Day
Chelsea Chelsea, Chelsea Chelsea
We’re gonna make this a Blue Day
We’ve got some memories
Albeit from the Seventies when
Ossie & Co restored our pride
Now we’ve got hope, and a team, suddenly it’s not a dream
We’ll keep the Blue Flag flying high
We’ve waited so long
But we’d wait for ever
Our blood is blue and
We would leave you never
And when we make it
It’ll be together
Chelsea Chelsea, Chelsea Chelsea
We’re gonna make this a Blue Day
Chelsea Chelsea, Chelsea Chelsea
We’re gonna make this a Blue Day
Now even Heaven
Is Blue today, you should
Hear the Chelsea roar
Hear the Chelsea roar
Chelsea Chelsea, Chelsea Chelsea
We’re gonna make this a Blue Day
Chelsea Chelsea, Chelsea Chelsea
We’re gonna make this a Blue Day
Chelsea Chelsea, Chelsea Chelsea
We’re gonna make this a Blue Day!
