DEAR DEIDRE: MY manager sneaks up on me, tickles the back of my neck and tries to put his arm around me. He’s the biggest creep ever.
I’m a chambermaid and he’s head of housekeeping. Once I was bending over making a bed and he came up behind me saying: “Assume the position.”
I’m 23 and I’ve been at the hotel for two years and he’s 37 and joined the company six months ago. I used to enjoy the job but now I dread going in because he’s always trying to touch me.
A few of us went out for a drink last night after our shift, to celebrate the chef’s birthday.
Our manager turned up and came up to me at the bar saying, “If I buy you a drink, how far will that get me?”
I told the general manager but he laughed at me.
DEIDRE SAYS: This is sexual harassment and he should not be getting away with it.
Your general manager should be taking this seriously, not laughing it off.
Please talk to your HR department, ask to record the meeting, so they know you aren’t messing around, and report them both.
Keep a note of everything too.
Talk to other female staff because my guess is they will have had negative experiences also. Together your case would be even stronger.
