When is Black Friday 2023?
Black Friday falls on November 24 in 2023. Black Friday is a Stateside tradition – without fail, it always falls on the day after American Thanksgiving.
That might not be something celebrated in the UK – but hey, we can all get on board with bargain shopping, right?
It first began in the Sixties, and traditionally was an intensive one-day sale.
But now the sales period stretches out far longer than that, and you can expect to see deals online even as early as the beginning of November.
So whatever you do, don’t wait until the Friday itself to start searching for great TV deals.
Are TV retailers taking part in Black Friday this year?
Yes, we’d definitely expect to see loads of great TV deals from a sweeping range of stores and retailers.
Here’s a list of stores where we always find the best Black Friday deals on TVs, from big brands like LG, Samsung and Sony.
What you’ll find is these retailers will match each others prices – and with Amazon often undercutting its rivals by £1.
Something to remember is that John Lewis offers a policy of guaranteed price-matching – keep that in mind if you think you’ve paid more than you should.
That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t shop around – TV brands themselves, such as LG, Samsung, Sony, and TCL, all have online stores, and often discount their items during Black Friday.
So keep your eyes peeled for TV deals, but more crucially, make sure you bookmark this page. We’ll be keeping it updated with all the best TV deals and price drops.

What is a smart TV?
A smart TV is a traditional television that comes with built-in internet.
Essentially, it lets you to do some of the things you’d be able to do from your PC, but using a remote control or a smartphone app.
More importantly, with a smart TV you can stream Netflix or Amazon Video straight from your couch, or check out your latest photos and videos directly on your TV.
You can also browse the web and access the likes of YouTube with just a click of a button.
Which smart TV is best?
By our estimates, one of the best smart TVs out there is the Sky Glass – you can find out more from our tech editor’s Sky Glass review.
Sky Glass is a 4K, QLED TV that doesn’t need a satellite dish. Much like a regular smart TV, the Glass can connect directly to the internet and let you stream a wide variety of channels.
Alongside Sky Glass, there’s also Sky Q – a set-top-box offering multiple services integrated with smart TV features and Ultra HD support.
All major brands such as LG, Samsung and Sony sell Smart TVs, and there are likely to be big discounts at the time of year.
One of our top picks is JVC’s Android TV 32-inch Smart HD Ready LED TV with Google Assistant that is only £149 (saving £70).
LG Smart TVs are also pretty standout – every new LG TV runs on the WebOS smart platform, which is arguably the most versatile smart TV system currently on the market.
How much electricity does a TV use?
The amount of electricity a TV consumes will depend on its size and energy rating.
It will unlikely be a surprise that the bigger the size of the TV, the more electricity it will use.
To get a rough idea of electricity use, look at the kWh/1000h number. This will show you how much it costs to run the TV over a year. 1,000 hours per year is equivalent to two – three hours a day or 19 hours a week.
If you want to reduce the energy consumption of your TV, we recommend you set the brightness control to automatic.
Also, ensure you have power/energy saving mode activated.
It’s also worth setting a sleep timer on your TV. That way, it will automatically power off if it’s not been used for a few hours.
Is Black Friday a good time to buy a TV?
Absolutely. Tech products take a major role in the Black Friday sales, and you’ll often find enormous discounts on televisions.
Late November is always the perfect moment to pick up a great TV for cheaper than usual, and our advice is to hold off upgrading until then.
Okay, not always: Easter time is also a major sales period, and during Amazon Prime Day (both of them), Prime subscribers are granted access to lots of decent telly deals.
Should I wait until Black Friday to buy a TV?
Definitely. Unless you’re in dire need, it’s wise to save your spending until Black Friday.
Retailers save their best discounts until late November rolls around, knowing that’s when shoppers will be on the look-out for premium deals.
Should I buy a TV on Black Friday or wait for Cyber Monday?
If you see an amazing TV deal on Black Friday, and one that’s the right screen size and budget for you, we suggest you don’t hang about until Cyber Monday.
If it’s a genuinely good price drop, it could easily become sold out over that weekend.
On top of that, Cyber Monday isn’t the standalone event that it was historically.
Traditionally, it’s a day of online-only deals, in contrast to the in-store aisle-dashing on Black Friday itself.
But these days, with online shopping booming, there’s very little difference between Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
You might find a final wave of TV deals on the latter day – but if we’re being honest, it will likely be a last-gasp stock push from the retailers and we don’t think it’s worth banking on.
How much can I save on a Black Friday TV deal?
If you look at the Black Friday TV deals in past years, you’ll see big savings across the product range and from all the major brands.
If you’re buying a cheaper TV, you still could save something like £180 on a set costing £369 – right up to a huge saving of £1,200 on a £2,299 TV.
That’s why it’s worth planning ahead and then shopping around on Black Friday get the very best deal for you.
Are TVs really cheaper on Black Friday?
You better believe it – of all the dates in the sales calendar, it’s Black Friday where you’ll always see the best savings on TVs from all brands, sizes and price points.
That being said, there are so many price drops out there during Black Friday it’s important to separate the good ones from the mediocre ones.
Luckily, we’ll only feature the very best TV deals on this page, so make sure you bookmark it and keep returning to see all the latest offers.
It’s also worth checking for extra discounts on big brands on the Sun Vouchers page.
What kind of Black Friday TV deal should I buy?
That really depends on what you’re looking for. There are incredible top-end TVs with cutting-edge screens and exciting smart features – and if you buy top of the line, you’ll likely make big savings too.
But at the other end of the scale, you’ll also find good savings on cheaper TVs as well, which are still fantastic to watch all your favourite programmes on, just without some of those extra features.
The important thing is to have a strong idea of expectations and available budget. Then on Black Friday itself, to compare all of the available deals from different brands.
How to measure a TV
When we talk about TV measurements, whether that’s 32 inches, 43 inches, 50 inches or bigger, we mean the size of the screen between the two diagonally opposite corners.
If you want to know how large your TV is, or how much space you have for a TV, it’s fairly easy to work out with a tape measure.
You can find out more in our how to measure a TV screen explainer.
