MOST punters are unlikely to pig out on a posh cafe’s sausage rolls — as they are selling for a world record £7.20 each.
Store Street Espresso flogs the porky puff pastries for nearly five times the price of one at Greggs.
The London coffee chain’s artisan offerings are also £2.20 dearer than a sausage roll at luxury department store Harrods.
Store Street Espresso has sites at Spitalfields in the East End, Hammersmith, West London, and two in the centre at Fitzrovia.
Meanwhile, each week bakery chain Gregg’s sells 2.5 million sausage rolls.
They cost £1 at the start of 2022 before inflation took hold.
Wrapping meat in pastry dates back to Greek and Roman times, and the sausage roll was first mentioned in The Times in 1863.
