Where is the Donnington Valley Hotel and Spa?

This charming, family-owned 4* hotel is in the heart of Berkshire, just a stone’s throw away from the historic market town of Newbury.

It is situated on a scenic golf course only an hour’s drive from London and 40 minutes from Oxford.

There is also complimentary parking outside the hotel.

Surrounded by parkland and an 18-hole golf course, this luxury health spa hotel offers great food, friendly service, and a picturesque setting – it’s the ideal place for some well-deserved time away and a tranquil break.

What is there to do there?

With an 18-hole golf course on site, it is perfect if you fancy a round, or equally there a plenty of walks from the front door around the manicured grounds.

If you simply want to relax there is a luxury spa with an aromatherapy room, sauna, steam room, gym and heated 18m indoor pool – book your spa treatment here.

Although there are plenty on and around the grounds, you can venture out for a royal experience at Blenheim Palace, or for all you gin-lovers you can visit the Bombay Sapphire Distillery for a gin tour.

What is there to eat and drink at the hotel

The Donnington prides itself on fine dining in a relaxed setting at its two-AA rosette award-winning restaurant.

It offers high-quality food with changing menus to match the season. I enjoyed a baked Camembert to start, followed by a delicious, warm steak salad for the main.

Before tucking into hearty food, guests can enjoy a quick drink in the wine bar next to the restaurant which has a notable wine list.

The breakfast does not disappoint with fresh fruit, a cooked buffet, pastries and cereal.

What are the rooms like?

One night’s B&B costs from £129.50 per person, but the prices vary if you pick a Classic Room which is smart and stylish, or an Executive Room which is more spacious with an open plan lounge area. Book here.

Decorated in neutral shades of beige and grey, the 111 rooms are elegant and classically styled, with soft woollen throws, crisp Egyptian cotton duvets, soft pillows, blackout curtains and blinds.

Is the hotel family-friendly?

Yes. There is a DVD player for your kids to sit back and watch a film, a free cot and an extra bed upon request.

Is there access for guests with disabilities?
